Lock it up: A significant proportion of thefts and burglaries committed over the past month in Suffolk have been facilitated by people leaving cars, sheds, garages and houses unlocked. Please help reduce crime by making sure residents in your scheme ‘lock it’ and ‘check it’. Please don’t be the one to find out the hard way that Insurance companies take a very dim view of a failure to secure property.
CCTV and Alarms: Over the past few months we have received an increasing number of requests for guidance and information on both CCTV and intruder alarms. In relation to CCTV people are asking questions such as:
• “If I put CCTV in, do I have to put signs up telling people?”
• “If I am just using CCTV to help protect my house against intruders, do I need to consider Data Protection legislation?”
The following link to the relevant page on Information Commissioners website will answer these and other questions. You will also find useful links, including to the CCTV Code of Practice: - Information Commissioner – CCTV. If you are an individual or business and you are thinking of putting in CCTV, also have a look at the following Suffolk Police link Suffolk Police - CCTV, where you will find useful information and links.
