Police are advising:
Consider installing a burglar alarm or timer switches to operate radios and lights if you're not back from work until after dark or away for a few days. If you have a burglar alarm ensure it is always set when you leave your home.
Make sure your home is kept secure at all times: keep windows and doors locked, switch lights on when going out to make your home look occupied, use burglary alarms and install security lights on the outside of your property.
Keep jewellery in a safe place and locked up if possible. Consider installing a safe at home which is securely fixed to the floor or wall. See www.securedbydesign.com for police approved safes. Photograph all pieces of jewellery against a plain background with a ruler next to them, to give an idea of size.
Property mark your postcode onto all valuable items with a permanent marker, UV pen or with a property marking solution from companies such as Smartwater, SelectaDNA or Crimestoppers.Suffolk Police is currently running the campaign 'Operation Drawbridge', which aims to reduce the number of burglaries by encouraging homeowners to take simple measures to protect their house, and to increase the amount of crimes solved by calling upon members of the public to provide police with crucial information to help bring those responsible to justice.
Download free tracking applications/ software to smart phones, laptops and tablets from your app store. These can help to track your device if it is stolen. Your device can then provide a map or current location and in some cases can be locked remotely.
Anyone who has information about this spate of burglaries is asked to call Bury CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting ST/12/3730.
